![]() I love learning about the science behind perfumery and I particularly enjoyed peering at the chemical structure! And as for Steven’s video review, I thought it was fantastic how he breaks down some of the accords very specifically to it’s component notes – for example, how he describes the rum accord as having within it aspects of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and bay leaf all seamless melded together with the rum and vanilla to make the entire rum accord. Wow what an interesting perfume! I thought Michelyn’s introduction on Hedione was so educaitonal, with it’s focus on science and how Hedione was found to stimulate the limbic areas of the brain in women which are responsible for the release of pheromones. Top opportunity, Cheers with my version of Puerto Rican Coconut-Cinnamon Rum Cocktail Since i wear it too, i can say on him is really spicy, woody aromatic, but on me smells similar to Lavender French Hard Candy from L’Ami Provencal i buy for many, many years from Amazon. ![]() I know Rehab, it’s part of the Hedonist collection. In my mind i somehow envisioned Side Effect smelling like the Puerto Rican Coconut-Cinnamon Rum Cocktail. How Dior were able to keep the Hedion for themselves for such a long time? There must be some true in the Hedion claims, since now so many brands are using it, not just Initio Parfums and Parfums de Marly, i know the two are connected. What excites me is the most is the fine balance between rum, vanilla, tobacco and cinnamon. I love the way Michelyn and Steven described it, Side Effect sounds great. Well made fragrance, with both spicy, boozy, sweet, resinous and woody elements. My Instagram following the official CaFleureBon page: again for hosting the giveaway! Keep up the great reviews on Redolessence This Fragrance is a perfect balance in my opinion, it’s my favorite Initio fragrance to date. If the limbic part of the brain is being stimulated, it totally accounts for some of the forward compliments I’ve received! I had no idea Hedione was being used by Dior since before 1970 That’s my favorite form of compliment but this fragrance has landed a few “you smell really good” and “I like this one you have on”Īfter reading Michelyn’s brief explanation of Hedione it totally makes sense. This baby is an attention magnet with the ladies! I get those lingering conversations with the not so subtle “ooo what’s that smell” paired with the lean into my chest/neck region. I love the playful winter notes with the subtle boozy accord on my skin. Side effect opens smooth and warm just like Steven mentions. I haven’t had the chance to explore a full bottle yet but let me tell you about my 5ml wearing experience. Initio Side Effect is one of my favorite decants that I’ve ever purchased. Main Notes: Cinnamon Bark, Rum, Tobacco, Saffron, Sandalwood, Hedione In other words, the scent of Hedione might drive women crazy (perhaps that is the “side effect” and why Intitio Side Effect is part of the Carnal collection). In 2015 the science journal NeuroImage published a study in which Hedione was found to stimulate the limbic areas of the brain in women which are responsible for the release of pheromones. Hedione was originally used by fragrance company Firminich© in the early 1960s as an alternative to jasmine absolute and was first used in perfumery by the great Edmond Roudnitska in 1966 when he created Dior’s Eau Sauvage. What caught my attention was the use of Hedione in the note list. Initio Parfums Side Effect is a boozy, sweetly spicy resinous perfume offset by tobacco and that ticks all the boxes for the perfect winter fragrance. Video Contributor Steven Gavrielatos has reviewed many Initio Parfums over the years and when we were recently chatting about the brand, he realized that although he included Initio Parfums Side Effect in many of his top ten lists (check out his top 10 favorite holiday perfumes here) he had never done a standalone video.
